We were perfectly comfortable at a North Dallas private school. So we switched to DISD

We are excited and nervous, as this week marks a long journey for our family, a journey of introspection that ultimately manifested itself in the decision to pull our kids out of a private school.

As we slowly shared this decision with friends and family over the past several months, we were often left stammering, trying to explain our rationale. Our quick explanations didn’t do the topic justice, and the conversation would move on while our minds raced for a better way to describe how everything unfolded. After ongoing reflection, we can now lay out our thought process in a more holistic manner, and we hope it inspires other families to consider Dallas ISD as a viable option for their children.

We had different upbringings that we valued — Jimmy graduated from a public high school in Pasadena (just outside of Houston) and Lisa graduated from an all-girls private school in North Dallas. We met at Southern Methodist University.
